Many Muslims around the world have questions such as below but have no place to talk about them freely.
- Do you feel you are not a good Muslim because you are unable to perform salat five times a day ?
- Does your mind wander in salat and you blame yourself? You have tried different methods for improving concentration in prayer but they did not help?
- Do you find khutbas in mosques uninspiring and boring?
- Do you feel that Muslim women and men should have equal rights?
- Do you think that a woman scholar should be allowed to give khutbah and lead prayer?
- Do you believe that homosexual Muslims should be respected and not be made to feel guilty for how Allah has made them?
- Do you feel there should be more opportunities for young men and women to socialize in a healthy atmosphere?
Muslim Reform Movement Organization (MRMO) discusses these and other questions that cause conflict in people’s lives and helps them to find answers.
People in the Muslim Reform Movement Organization believe that reform is necessary to liberate Muslims from outdated beliefs that are not based on core Islamic teachings.
MRMO is about discovering and restoring the principles taught by Prophet Muhammad that release human potential, to enable individuals to live purposeful and happy lives. It works by replacing the literalist readings of the Quran and the Hadith with critical thinking and open discussion, making their liberating insights available to more and more people.
The MRMO community is comprised of individuals who are interested in attaining spiritual growth through the teachings of the Quran. Open-mindedness, search for meaning and an unrelenting quest for learning characterize our members. The study circles create a common platform for the community. The continuous and focused discussions about personal growth through Quran’s insights with like-minded individuals provides community members with moral support and a safe, non-judgmental space. This makes it possible for us to explore our beliefs and become proactive in attaining a deeper and richer life.
The MRMO as an organization does not engage in philanthropy, political, civic or social work or inter-faith dialogue. The organization’s main focus is to liberate the energies of its community members through raising spiritual awareness. Based on ideas discussed in the study circles, MRMO members individually become empowered and make contributions in their respective spheres by providing service to humanity.
